How to Create multiple desktops in Windows 10

How to use multiple desktops in Windows 10

In the Windows 10 Pro you can add a seemingly unlimited number of virtual desktops quickly and easily, thanks to the new Task View pane. Unfortunately, Windows 10's multiple desktop functionality is still very limited -- you can't drag and drop programs between different screens, you can't change the wallpaper for individual desktops, and you can't quickly jump to a particular screen without cycling through all of your open screens.

Add a desktop

Windows Key + Tab. In the Task View pane, click New desktop to add a virtual desktop. If you have two or more desktops already open, the "Add a desktop" button will appear as a gray tile with a plus symbol. You can also quickly add a desktop without entering the Task View pane by using the keyboard shortcut

You can add as many desktops as you want! To switch desktops, using the shortcuts Windows Key + Ctrl + Left Arrow and Windows Key + Ctrl + Right Arrow to scroll through the desktops. Your computer can display seven desktops at a time in the Task view panel.

Move windows from one desktop to another

There are a couple of ways to do this. The easiest way is to drag and drop: to move a window, open the Task view button and hover over the desktop with the window you want to move. It will pop up on the screen. Drag and drop it into an available desktop.
Or, right-click the window, select Move to and choose the desired desktop.
The window will automatically move to that desktop.

Close a desktop

Use the keyboard shortcut ALT + TAB to see and flip through running apps and open windows regardless of the desktop they’re in.
While the ability to personalize each desktop is somewhat limited, creating multiple virtual desktops is still another useful tool for organizing your digital life.
